Effective Date of Same Sex Marriage Law, if Not Repealed by Voters
By: Maryel Doyon

10/29/2009 - The Secretary of State’s office has 20 days after the election to submit the tabulation to the Governor, and the Governor has 10 days to proclaim the results. If the veto passes, the new law does not take effect. If the veto fails, the law takes effect 30 days after the Governor’s proclamation. (So, the most time it would be is 60 days after the election.)
